- The WifiNanScan app measures the distance between two smartphones using the Wi-Fi Aware protocol.
- Developers can use this tool to validate to connect devices and distance measurements.
- The application is available to download via Google Play Store
Tech company Google has launched a new application called WifiNanScan. The specialty of this app is that it connects devices without any internet connection and Bluetooth connection. In this special app of Google, the distance between the smartphone can also be measured with the help of the Wi-Fi Aware protocol.
However, the WifiNanScan app is specially designed as a research, demonstration, and testing tool for developers, vendors, and universities, so that they can experiment.
Range up to 15 meters
According to Google, the distance between devices ranging from one to 15 meters can be measured through the WifiNanScan app. Developers, OEMs, and researchers can use this tool to measure distance or range for the development of Find My Phone and context-aware applications based on WiFi Aware / NAN APIs with pair to pair ranging and data transfer. Through this, documents can be send to a printer without any network.
You will get more range than Bluetooth
A Wi-Fi Aware network connection provides a much longer distance than a Bluetooth connection. These connections are useful for apps that share photos among users. Developers can use this technology to find nearby devices and users in their app. The new WifiNanScan app is available for free download on the Play Store.
This protocol is useful with all devices in Android 8.0 and above operating system versions and allows them to search and connect to each other without any kind of connectivity between them.
